What would you say is the number one thing that’s holding you back from achieving more success in your life or career?
- Your boss?
- Your spouse or partner?
- Your lack of money or education?
- Your concern about other people’s opinion of you?
If your answer is the same or similar to any of the above, I humbly suggest you have it wrong.
The # 1 thing holding you back is “You”
Now I don’t mean to sound harsh or judgmental. But it’s true for all of us. Almost 100% of the time, we are our own biggest obstacle. But when you learn how to get out of your own way, the path to success will become so much clearer to you.
The good news is, since you’re the biggest obstacle that means you have 100% total control over the situation. And you have the power to change it.
(In fact, you are the only one who can.)
So how do you create the life you want? You are going to have to assume 100% responsibility for everything that happens to you. That means giving up all your excuses, all your victim stories, and all the reasons why you can’t and why you haven’t up until now, and all your blaming of outside circumstances.
- It’s not your boss’ fault
- It’s not your spouse or partner’s fault
- It’s not your lack of time, money or education.
You have to eliminate such thoughts from your mind forever and once you do. You’ll be astonished how quickly you will start to see real transformation take place.
Neurochemistry studies prove it. You see Chemistry plays a big role when we focus our attention on excuses/negative thoughts, our bodies produce higher levels of Cortisol, a hormone that shuts down the thinking center of our brain and activates conflict aversion and protection behaviors. We become more reactive, sensitive, attribute greater judgment and negativity than actually exists. And these effects can last for 26 hours or more, imprinting the interaction on our memories and magnifying the impact it has on our future behavior. Cortisol functions like a sustained-release tablet – the more we ruminate about our negative thoughts, the longer the impact.
Positive thoughts produce a chemical reaction too. They spur the production of Oxytocin, a feel-good hormone that elevates our ability to communicate, collaborate and trust others by activating networks in our prefrontal cortex. The problem is that Oxytocin metabolizes quicker than Cortisol, so its effects are less dramatic and long-lasting.
That is why it is essential to your success to quickly recognize and to take captive your negative thoughts/blaming attitude, and start taking responsibility for your own life; as well as responsibility for any damage that a negative attitude can cause on your relationships with your friends and family. Then you’ll be able to give up all excuses and the “poor me” attitude and make a full commitment to create the life you desire.
